TRAINING AGENDA DAY 1

9-9:30am – Introductions and Overview

10:30am-12PM – Nursing Staff, Tour of Lab

  • Line of Demarcation- clean vs. dirty side of lab
    • Why is this important?
  • Ensure vitamins are stored in cabinet/refrigerator properly and review proper vitamin storage (always defer to label instruction for storage)

1pm – 5pm – Nurse Hands on Training/Lab Organization/Documentation Review

  • Assess lab and organize lab as needed
    • Utilize “Initial Lab Setup”
  • Hand Hygiene and Garbing Competency
    • Discuss garbing as it pertains to The DRIPBaR
      • Verbalize that 797 guidelines require anyone who is mixing wear full garb (Hair net, mask, gown, gloves and booties)
    • Staff members through protocols
  • Process for Opening the hood
    • Review of how to turn on the hood
      • Hood should cycle for 10min prior to compounding.
    • Monthly (3-step) Hood Cleaning Process
      • Protocols
      • Demonstrate Cleaning
    • Setting up the hood for the day with necessary supplies
      • Process of wiping down all supplies needed with 70% IPA prior to placing in the antechamber.

TRAINING AGENDA DAY 2

9am – 9:30am – Client Appointments

  • Client checks in with front desk- they ensure forms are completed
  • Good faith exam if first time client
  • RN reviews medical history
  • Medical history review by nurse
  • Client is brought back to the lounge and offered to choose a seat to place their belongings, offer beverage. Encourage IV start in phlebotomy chair.
  • Vital Signs taken- recommend doing this prior to mixing any drip. Can offer IM injection in the event a client’s blood pressure is too high for IV.
  • Nurse goes into the lab, performs hand hygiene, proper garbing and prepares IV
  • Drip/IM injection
  • Nurse starts IV and hooks patient to drip.
  • Walk client to selected seat.
  • Client is monitored periodically to ensure comfort through drip.
    • Remind nurses that they should be asking if client feels okay, but IV site should be monitored as well.
  • IV is disconnected and catheter is removed upon completion of drip
  • Vital signs taken prior to patient leaving to ensure they are stable.
  • Review same process while demonstrating in EMR

9:30am – 12pm – Nurse Practices

  • Practice mixing drips
    • Each nurse selects a Lifestyle drip to mix, start IV, and administers to one another
    • Monitoring each nurse through this process and providing duidance as needed

1pm – Mix Drips for Friends and Family Event

  • Determine amount of people scheduled and divide the mixing up between each staff member for practice
    • Ensure all bags are labeled properly with date and time and initials of the nurse who mixed the bag.
    • Review protocol for storage of pre mixed bags
      • 12 hours at room temp
      • 24 hours refrigerated (Important to consider time of friends and family event,
